The first night, my wife was able to get a drink right away. The customer service at the bar was mixed.

But, having to pay for internet in the first place seemed a bit much to me, given the number of hotels that offer it for free, as well as the places in the area that offer free wi-fi.

Besides the room upgrade, she was able to help me with an internet problem I had, which resulted in a credit on my first night's internet charges. Lisa was very friendly and helpful at the front desk. Due to the low ceiling, and the opaque shower curtain, there was no light, so we had to keep the shower curtain open a bit in order to see. Other than being small, the only other thing I didn't like about the bathroom is that the light didn't shine into the shower. Just a minor inconvenience, as the fridge did come in handy. The refrigerator was located in the closet, and I was able to hear it during the night. As for the room itself, Lisa at the front desk graciously upgraded us to a better room (#238). We could hear people walking up and down the stairs, walking down the hall, and talking in the room next door, so the insulation isn't the best. Because this is an older hotel, the bathrooms are small, the stairwells coming from outside are narrow, and the height of the hallways is lower than usual (I'm 6'1" and still had few inches to spare without having to duck but it could feel claustrophopic for some). As others have mentioned, the rooms have 2 entrances - one leading to the outside, the other leading to the hallway. The pool is outside and is very large however, though the brochure in the room said the pool is open in April, there was a sign near the pool that said it's closed for the winter. The hot tub is set at 103 degrees, which was a great temperature. It wasn't clear from their website, but this hotel has its own pool and hot tub.

We didn't pay to use the health club and I'm not sure how much we would have been able to use it anyway the parking lot seemed full everytime I looked out the window. I had some e-mail exchanges with Priceline, but they didn't budge.

But, Priceline gave me what they called a "no cost" upgrade, which ended up being $1.50 per hour internet charge (or $7 daily rate), plus $12 per person if you decided to use the health club next door, which had a gym. I purposely bid on 3 star hotels because those available had free gym and internet access. We were "upgraded" to this hotel by Priceline, something I was not happy about. I would stay at this hotel again if I attend another conference there. I was in 3 of the wings and only the Courtyard wing has an elevator if this is important to you. There are 5 wings of rooms all of which have 2 stories. It seems like that is sort of a standard for a nice motel these days. Uh, it has a pool (closed while I was there in April as others mentioned) and a hot tub.

I don't consider this hotel a *resort* at all though. The hotel did an excellent job of supporting the conference I attended. Then to discover the lobby computer has a charge as well was very surprising. I had read other reviews about the internet charges which really is ridiculous in this day.and to charge for EACH device is very miserly. Perhaps those bar things give a false sense of security but I just did not feel the lock system was adequate. (Sorry, don't know the proper term for the locks!). Both doors had the old flip lock above the handle but no security chain or bar lock. My biggest concern was the 2 door situation in the room that others have mentioned. I checked all the plugs in the room I was in (3 lamps with 2 outlets in each lamp plus 2 in the bathroom) and all worked. Several of the attendees to my conference said they had trouble with plugs not working so had to charge their phones in the bathroom. The location is in a residential neighborhood (nice area to walk in!) so is very quiet in regards to traffic noise. The shower curtain had some yellow staining at the bottom but perhaps that is due to the water there. The towels were adequate but the bathmat was very thin (think Motel 6). The kitchen also did the food for my conference and it was very good. The restaurant was good altho overpriced. The desk clerk offered to do my airline check-in for me. I went to the lobby the day before my departure to do an online check-in with the airline and found they charge for that internet access too. I had a very comfortable bed and the front desk staff was welcoming and helpful. As someone mentioned below, the hotel is a basic 50's style motel, but the room I was in was renovated. I just stayed at the Flamingo for 6 nights for a conference.
